Link Round Up: Distance Learning...Yes or No? (By Mary Hall)

In the field of education, technology allows for so many possibilities both inside, and outside the classroom. One of those many possibilities is distance learning. This type of learning is being used in elementary schools, high schools, and colleges across the country. What exactly is distance learning?

Well, distance learning is a form of learning that uses technology, and allows students who are not able to be at the location where the lesson or lecture is taking place to be a part of it. Without the technology available for this type of learning, students would miss out on amazing opportunities.

This alternative style of learning is available in many different elementary schools, and high schools. In these schools there are rooms specifically set up for this kind of learning. These rooms are called, distance learning classrooms. In these classrooms there are various forms of technology such as the internet, and computers. These provide students access to a wide variety of information, and experiences.

With the use of the technology, and these distance learning classrooms, teachers can set up conferences with a museum, or other classrooms that are studying the same things that they are studying. Distance learning also provides an equal opportunity for special needs students.

Distance learning is not just used in elementary schools, and high schools it is also used in many college settings. In fact there are specific colleges that are specifically designed for distance learning. There are however varying view's on the pros and cons of distance learning.

In terms of being in elementary school, and having the access to distance learning, I would say that I am 100% for it. The other students are there, and the teacher is there to offer help right away.

In terms of distance learning colleges, I would have to say that I would have to seriously think about it. The reason is, I am the type of person who needs that one-on-one interaction in the classroom. I need that socialization time.

Distance learning wouldn't work for me in college, but if it works for you then I say go for it.

So I say ,yes, to distance learning.
